In 2003 the Townsend Letter published an article on the use of intravenous (IV) glutathione for endurance athletes. What was remarkable was the success rate of the intervention. Using glutathione (a profound antioxidant that is only available from intravenous delivery) the average cyclist was able to increase their performance by over 7% in one month.
Glutathione is a compound formed of three amino acids: L-Cysteine, Glycine, and L-Glutamic Acid. When an individual tries to consume this compound orally, stomach acid cleaves the bonds between the aminos rendering the compound inert.
